it's friday, february 1st. new information on the breaking news we've been following since 4:30 this morning. a child reportedly taken from her mother in oakland triggered an amber alert overnight. brian flores is live in oakland where police new say they've caught the suspect. good morning, brian. >> reporter: good morning, tori. a lot of twists and turns in this case if you will on what's been going on since this amber alert was issued. but yes, police say they do have the suspect, if you will, 56-year-old kim tolefree at least in for questioning at their point. but they also say that the amber alert still remains in effect. we thought it would be a good idea to go over -- to go over the information again just in case there's other details. but the amber alert was issued around 4:30. police were looking for what was a gray chevy truck. it had the california license plate of 7n79574. again, that was 7n79574

now, initially, police told us they were looking for kim tolefree as well as a 1-year- old child, a girl. her name was -- her name is isaza tolefree. she was described as last wearing a pink shirt with blue bears holding anage and yellow blanket and kim tolefree was last seen wearing a plaid and beige coat, acid washed jeans. we're told the suspect was armed and dangerous. the twist -- and we just got done talking with oakland police and her daughters as well, we're told this may not be a child at all. it may be a case of domestic violence involving drugs. here's what one neighbor said. we don't that have sound right now. we're trying to sort out out

controversy surrounding the 49ers and the gay community. it centers around an anti- bullying video made in august. strangely enough, the two players who made it, denied making it. linebacker brooks and sopogoa. said they didn't realize the purpose of for the video -- purpose for the video was not about fighting. the players were asked about it in a chris culliver interview. brooks said he knew it was an anti-bullying video but not a gay rights thing. >> when people speak on any issue, i always try to give them a little leeway when they do make a mistake just because it -- a sensitive topic like

higher clouds. next rain, thursday, friday. next thursday, friday. although it's looking more like a colder system than a rainy system. we need the rain. if you thought where is the breeze, there has not been much. others in the east bay, have a pretty good offshore wind continuing. that for shom the offshore breeze is in place. that means the coast has really nice weather. temperatures on the lows are even warmer that morning than yesterday it will be sunny. mostly cloudy. there's some higher clouds. i think most of those day towards more central california. 30s for some. 49. redwood city, san rafael is at 41. livermore is 32. so some of those higher clouds to the south, the forecast model picks up on it a little

7:13. we're continuing to follow the developing news this morning out of turkey. that's where a suicide bomber detonated an explosive device right outside the u.s. embassy, killing himself and an embassy guard. kyla campbell is in our washington, d.c. newsroom with what we're hearing about who may be behind this attack. kyla? >> reporter: turkey's interior minister now says the suicide bomber is most likely connected to a left-wing militant organization that's based in turkey. that group is outlawed and is considered a terrorist group but as of now, no group is claiming responsibility.

that attack happened outside the u.s. embassy before 4:00 a.m. pacific time. the state department is working closely with the turkish national police to figure out who is responsible. the lone suicide bomber was about to go through the x-ray machines at the entrance to the u.s. embassy when the explosion happened. cnn says the bomber died, as did a turkish man who works as a security guard at the embassy. a woman visiting the embassy on business was hurt. investigators are not saying how serious her injuries are or if she's from the united states. i did reach out to the state department to find out if other u.s. embassies around the world are now having tightened security issues and i have not yet head back. we've also contacted foreign policy experts. we'll have their reaction when i see you next. live in washington, kyla campbell, ktvu channel 2 news. 7:14. the attack on the u.s. embassy

in turkey comes on the same day that john kerry takes over as secretary of state. kerry will be sworn in at the state department this everyone why. before starting his new job, kerry made an emotional farewell tour across massachusetts. he said he wanted to thank the people he represented in the senate for 29 years. hillary clinton will give her farewell speech to the state department this afternoon on her last day as secretary of state. this is new video of clinton leaving home this morning for her last day on the job. clinton has said she looks forward to sleeping in after today. in fer four years, clinton traveled nearly a million miles and visited 112 countries. 7:15. well, it's a first in the nation and the city of oakland will introduce it today. it's both an i.d. card and a debit card designed to help low-income people as well as imgrants who often don't have access to bank accounts that have to rely on expensive check cashers. but critics already fear they will be targets of fraud

because those cards contain personal information. a lot of or stolen card could give those thieves information they need to drain a bank account. later this year, latinos will outnumber the white population, for the first time in history. according to census figures, latinos will beat 49% of the white population by summertime. by the year 2020, the latinos will be the biggest ethnic group at 41%. the white population will make up about 37% of california's population. it is 7:16. bay area anti-nuclear activists are speaking out against a proposal to ship plutonium to lawrence livermore laboratory for testing. the group communities against a radioactive environment or c.a.r.e., sponsored a form in livermore last night. the act activists are concerned about a proposal to ship the

plutonium from livermore to the lab in new mexico. no decision has been made on whether to transport the pleau tone number. san francisco's latest attackhas led to a somber vinyl again. last night people gathered in the city's south of market area. they came to pray for a software salesman they never met. police say 34-year-old scott now was bugged and beaten to death on the this same street corner. >> to the world, he's just another homicide victim but in god's eyes, he's precious. >> these mourners laid almost 70 candles and the city last year to remember homicide victims. this was their fifth vigil since the start of the year. 7:17. well, the fire district that serves sonoma state university may file a lawsuit to force the

service they've been getting for free. the dispute between adobe and the university has been going on for years. since 2009, when the district established a fee schedule, the university has refused to pay the bills the district has sent. the fire district is searching for ways to finance this operations. it started to close its three fire stations on a rotating basis to close a $387,000 budget deficit. it's another first tied to the catholic church abuse scandal. the archbishop of los angeles ordered roger mahony to stop performing any public church duties because of his connections to that scandal. this game after the archdiocese released private files of priests suspected of molesting children. the decision on this came yesterday after years of lawsuits and very emotional

legal battles. it has support of the nearly 4 million catholics. >> i think it's good that the information is coming out. >> yes. secrecy is what keeps the abuse going. >> back in 2007, the archdiocese was involved in a record-breaking civil settlement in the church scandal. it reached a $660 million settlement with more than 500 victims of child molestation. a traffic safety program for children in the san ramon valley is kicking off its 9th year. street smarts was started by bob and carmen after their two children were killed by an impaired driver in 2003. the goal of streets smart is to educate drivers, bicyclists, and pedestrians about road safety. students participate by creating story books, advertising campaigns, public service announcements and taking part in a walk bike challenge. the federal government has put a proposed beer merger on

cooling on the weekend. a little bit of haze in the area. that will carry us in the weekend. but otherwise dry until maybe this time next week. >> thank you. 7:26. breaking news from oakland. we've been following since 4:30 this morning. an amber alert suspect is now in custody. but the alert is still in effect. >> reporter: an early-morning fire called suspicious knocked out power to dozens of people. we have new information from pg&e who has been at the scene for the past couple of hours. >> reporter: we're live in los gatos where some people are calling these padlocks a sentimental symbolism of love. but we'll tell you why the town says all of these padlocks must go today when "mornings on 2" continues.

it is 7:29. there is some confusion this morning regarding our breaking news regarding the reports of a 1-year-old girl abducted in oakland. it triggered an amber alert just after 4:30 this morning. you saw some of the highway signs that were talking about this story. investigators are now checking whether the child even exists. the first report was that a male suspect, 56-year-old kim tolefree, got into a fight with

the girl's mother. the mother said she took the girl and tolefree crashed into them and took the child away. a home on 98th avenue is the last location of kim tolefree considered armed and dangerous. police have now detained him but the girl has not turned up. and police are now trying to confirm that the girl exists and if so, is she missing? now, the mother said 1-year-old isaza tolefree was wearing a pink shirt with blue bears, holding an orange and yellow tigger the character blanket. we'll update you on this situation as soon as more information becomes available. brian flores is live -- will have a live report at the top of the hour. and we've learned new details surrounding an overnight fire in oakland that left dozens in the dark. claudine wong is live on nicole avenue where pg&e crews have been working all morning long to turn those light the back on. good morning, claudine. >> reporter: good morning.

yes. new information from you from pg&e. this is 2800 nicole avenue. you can see the pg&e crews -- see that gentleman getting in that blue truck? he's getting in his truck because the work is done. they've been able too turn on power so the 40 or so residents that live here. they did that by replacing the wires. if you look up on the roof, you can see that's a good sign. power is back on. they've been without power since 2:00 this morning when the fire started. i want to give you a look at some video of when this happened because certainly pretty scary here. this is all about 2:00 this morning. he said he got his family out, called 911, took out his phone to record video of the flames. he didn't want his face shown on camera but he's pretty sure it was set on purpose. >> yeah.

there was like a tree lit on fire. there's like a branch in the middle of the street that was already, like, lit. >> so when you looked a it -- >> suspicious. it wasn't an accidental fire. something did it. >> reporter: firefighters also think the fire looks suspicious. they have their investigator out here this morning for about 45 minutes taking a look at the scene. oakland police were out here also doing a report on what happened out here and soap that investigation is continuing. but in the meantime, if we come back out here live, there's a few things i want to show you. i want to show you the tree -- if you whattent to take a look apartment -- if you want to take a look at how hot it burned, you can see the fender in the bumper of that car, kind of burned and melted. if we come down here -- i want to walk you down the street, this is one of the reasons they think the fire is suspicious, that's because those two trees, not the only ones burnt. check out this one, that damaged the back end of this car and this is the tree that damaged the power lines that went to the building because of

the situation of where these two fires were and how they weren't really spreading from one tree next to the other but a couple of trees down the block, that's what's making them think that someone set this on purpose and they are looking for whoever is responsible. claudine wong, ktvu channel 2 news. 7:33. also in oakland, the independent monitor that overseas oakland police reforms, says the police department took a big step backward in the past year. the report specifically cites the police response to the occupy oakland protest. the report supports howard jordan who is trying to fire two officers and suspend 15 others for their treatment during the occupy movement. and that very same report found that two oakland police officers pointed their guns at a sleeping nine-month old

child. this happened while the police officers were serving a search warrant in a misdemeanor drug case. turning to the super bowl. jim harbaugh just wrapped up a special press conference with his brother, john harbaugh. they touched on various topics including family upbringing as well as sharing the same practice facility. jim harbaugh stood next to col inkaepernick and the 49ers called the 100-minute practice one of the best this season. they are allowing the ravens to train their as well because ravens' trained about the old field built on a baseball diamond. >> i hear he's doing a phenomenal job which i'm really proud of. and then this week, it's been tough, i haven't been talking to him or calling him or anything. i sent him a few texts, just lefting him know how i feel

about him. i don't want -- >> the harbaugh brothers say the game should not be about them but rather the players and they credit the players for helping the brothers go to the super bowl. san francisco police are preparing to control the crowd and keep the piece after the super bowl. they do not want to a -- they don't want a repeat of what happened after the giants won the world series. the city will remove all trash bips so they won't be burned and -- bins so they won't be burned and police are adding extra patrols in the areas. and safeway has decorated stores with football balloons and banners. americans will spend $50 million on super bowl parties. hot sellers include tailgating staples. one safeway sold 70 cases of avocados in one day. well, a popular display in los gatos will be removed

today. ktvu's janine de la vega is in los gatos now to talk about why the town is removing the so- called love locks from a downtown bridge. >> reporter: we're here orban -- we're here on the main street bridge. this is where all of the padlocks are. right now there's 17 of them left. there used to be a lot more. some people took a long time to do this. but sown officials said if too many people started putting padlocks, the bridge wouldn't be able to handle all of this weight and it could pose a lastarded on some of the bridge -- hazard on some of the bridge here. so that's why they are saying all of the locks must go. the locks started to appear last fall one couple wanted to commemorate their 30th anniversary and wanted their names and the date on it. they got the idea from similar landmarks around the world. other couples started bringing locks to the bridge in los fat dose. it grew to nearly 30.

caltrans owns the bridge and a sign was posted telling residents the locks will be removed and they need to remove them. some residents aren't really thrilled. >> they obviously backpacked on the -- backtracked on the whole thing. they were gonna throw them away and they said well, everyone is outraged. i think we better do something. >> i think they are all better out here. i think we should enjoy and relish in their symbolism. they are beautiful, they mean something to people. >> reporter: you can see back out here live, the signs are posted here, telling people to remove them and also that the locks will be relocated.

7:45. great news on the economy is sending stocks to highs we've not seen in six years. ktvu's pam cook is in the newsroom now with the exciting news on wall street. good morning, pam. >> good morning. two good reports are getting credit for taking the dow up to new heights right from the opening today. british opening -- [opening bell] >> the dow has pulled back a little bit. but that's typical. the index will test a new level for a bit until investors and economists weigh in whether or not the momentum will continue. in the past week, the s&p 500 has been testing the 1500 mark, both seen as very good, positive signs on the economy. helping drive the numbers, this morning's jobs report indicates that the jobs market is recovering. slowly but recover.

there's another good report on manufacturing that shows growth in the u.s. as well. now, the unimemployment rate did inch up -- unemployment rate did much up but analysts say that could be because more people are starting to look for work. so they are counted in those numbers again. let's take a live look at the big board right now to see. you can see the dow jones is up 130 points there to 13,990. s&p 500 and nasdaq also showing some good ingas today as well. now, in our next hour of "mornings on 2," i'm gonna talk about who is hiring, which sectors and which local companies right now. reporting live in the newsroom, i'm pam cook, let's go back to dave and tori. >> look forward to that. thank you, pam. we're learning this morning that form new york city mayor ed koch has died. he died this morning of congestive heart failure. he was 88. during his three terms of mayor

from 1978 to 1989 his tight fiscal policies pulled the city out of severe financial difficulties. he was known for his independent passionate and spirited ways. he later worked as a judge on the tv show "the people's court." one day after "the new york times" says computer hackers hacked from china, the paper said it's now over hauled the cyber security. meantime, china's ministry of national defense denies any involvement in the cyber attack. fox news host geraldo rivera is seriously thinking about running for a u.s. new jersey senate seat in 2013. he said he's been in touch with people in the republican party in new jersey. now, 89-year-old new jersey frank lautenburg has not said

big changes in san francisco's loading zones may be coming soon. the city may add special zones to busy corridors to allow private shuttles to load and unload riders easier. one new loading zone planned for private shuttles on van ness avenue, that may be a sign of things to come. now, that particular street has become a battleground between muni vehicles and private shuttles which pick up workers in san francisco and then take them to jobs in other cities. san francisco's presidio is no longer threatened with being sold. the business times reports the

presidio trust is making more money than it needs to cover operating costs. the former army base was turned into a national park on the condition that it be sold if it was not financially self- sufficient by this year. the presidio trust has plains to -- plans to raise their revenue to update and maintain new projects. there's an unusual case of rain -- of rabies in sonoma county. someone from santa rosa was bitten by a cat with rabies and is now being treated for it. this is the first case of rabies in a pet in this country for more than 15 years. county health officials are not releasing many details about the case, but pet owners are urged to vaccinate pets against rabies. an outbreak of the norovirus left at least 50 people sick in the east bay. the health department says it started when two employees at the north park deli in concord came into work sick. one group who eight at the

custody but there's still a lot of questions about this. really a strange case, brian. >> reporter: a lot of questions and twists and turns. but you are correct, the alleged suspect, 56-year-old, calm, is in custody. they actually say he turned himself in because he wanted to -- block audio] >> reporter: the new information, there's conflicting information on whether this child exists. we spoke to two women who say they are kim tolefree's daughters and they say the information about their dad is wrong. >> this is unnecessary. it's not that serious, you know, call the police and put out an amber alert and say there's been a child abducted. there's no child. my father's youngest kids are boys. this baby so far doesn't even exist. we need this to go away.

it's just ridiculous right now. >> reporter: and initially issued an amber alert looking for kim he was described as driving a 1973 chevy pickup truck with california license plate of 7n79574. the girl was described as 1- year-old isaza tolefree last seen wearing a pink t-shirt and wearing an orange blanket. there were initial reports that he was involved in a domestic violence incident involving drugs. we first heard it was the girlfriend who took the baby away and tole free took his car and crashed. but again, neighbors are saying otherwise, they paint a different picture of the suspect. >> i heard a lot of arguing and freeming. you know, give me the baby. you are no good. give me the baby. that's all i heard and the next thing you know, she ran -- she rammed her car into his truck.

>> reporter: she. raked her car into -- she rammed her car into his truck? >> yes. >> reporter: not the other way around? >> right. he's not that kind of person. >> reporter: a lot of resources were used to find this little girl. but tolefree is in oakland police custody. we also got done talking with them and they say they investigated the truck. they have the truck in custody as well. and they say they investigated this woman's car and that they say that there was no child seat in the car. a lot of twists and turns in this he very unusual amber alert. we're live in oakland, brian flores, ktvu channel 2 news. developing news coming out of turkey. a suicide bomber set off explosives right outside of the american embassy killing himself and an embassy security guard. now, coming up for you at 8:15, we'll tell you what we're finding out about the group that was reportedly behind that attack. we're continuing to countdown to super bowl xlvii.

responsible for today's deadly bombing outside the american embassy. as kyla campbell reports from our washington, d.c. newsroom, the united states considers the group a terrorist. kyla? >> reporter: yes. turkey's interior minister believes the suicide bomber is most likely connected to a left ling organization. it's called the revolutionary people party front. it's not yet claimed responsibility for today's attack. but the u.s. has the group designated as a terrorist organization. the blast happened at the entranceway to the u.s. embassy in turkey before 4:00 a.m. pacific time. the lone suicide bomber was about to go through an x-ray machine. the a.p. reports, the bomber died as did a turkish man working as a security guard working at the embassy. a woman at the embassy on business was also injured. investigators are not saying how severe her injuries are and where she's from. we're told there are multiple barriers and walls separating

almost a million miles and visited 112 countries. 8:17. no charges will be filed against two australian deejays involved in the royal prank phone call that ended in tragedy. the deejays impersonated queen elizabeth and prince charles when they called a british hospital to ask about the condition of the duchess of cambridge. a nurse who put the calls through hanged herself three days later. british prosecutors say there's no evidence to support manslaughter charges against the deejays. the deejays are still on staff at the radio station but their show has been canceled. 49er players are offer their support to a -- offering their support to kwame harris. he could face criminal charges, being accused of assaulting an ex-boyfriend outside a restaurant last year. alex smith said hare ris was fun to have in the locker room. and frank -- harris was fun to have in the locker room and

at ireports@ktvu.com. classes at fremont high school in sunnyvale are back to normal this morning after a fake bomb threat forced students and teachers to remain in their classrooms. the threat was called into the dispatch center yesterday afternoon. 20 officers and two bomb- sniffing dogs were sent to the campus. after they searched for about an hour, authorities found it was not a credible threat. despite accreditation concerns, city college of san francisco is encouraging students to keep enrolling there. the college spokesman says it lost the equivalent of 2,000 full-time students over the past year amid growing concern about the school's future. city college has until march 15th to report back to the's crediting commission on its progress implementing financial reform. the acreditting commission is expected to decide the school's fate in june. 8:19. a bay area used car dealer is due in court this morning. the charges he's facing tied to

8:22. boy a big storm that is sweeping across the eastern

part of the country, it's blamed for this, a huge pileup in indiana. at least 30 vehicles were involved. a lot of them were big rigs. at least ten people were hurt. one person's in critical condition. as you can see, heavy snow made it hard to see the roads. 8:23. a used car dealer in the south bay is due in court this morning accused of swindling dozens of customers. some old office furniture is all that's left of the sunnyvale motor car's used car dealership. the car lot abruptly closed seven weeks ago. now we're learning the owner is accused of swindling more than 40 people out of their cars and money through an elaborate scam. >> any idea how he was able to keep operating? >> no. right now, no. that's all part of the investigation. you know, how -- whether he took money from one vehicle to -- to keep another person satisfied or what.

welcome back. 8:29. new information about this morning aby czar story coming out of oakland. police just told us they called off the -- a bizarre story coming out of oakland. police just told us they called off the amber alert. police say a woman accused her boyfriend of kidnapping their 1- year-old daughter but now oakland police say the child does not exist. no word on whether any criminal charges will be filed against the woman. [no audio] ktvu's claudine wong live on nicole avenue right now. you've been there since 4:30 talking to people who saw the fire and those who were affected by it firsthand. claudine? >> reporter: that's right, dave. the pg&e crews have left.

the fire crews are gone. but for the victims of the fire, the day is just beginning. we've been talking with them. you will hear from them. we want to take you so you understand what happened here. the fire happened with these two trees here and this car here but i want to walk you down the street because we talked about a power outage and damage to a couple of cars. one of the reasons this is suspicious, you have the fire there and you have these trees that are fine, and then you have another tree right here that's also burned and damaged and this car right here that was also affected. it's this tree right here. if we pan up, you can see the power lines that go next to it. that's what caused the power outage this morning and the problems that continued for hours with these residents. we did talk to a man who lives right here in this building. that's actually his bathroom window. he woke up this morning because his entire apartment was lit up by the flames. >> i woke up. the trees were on fire and the flames were going everywhere.

we called the fire department and they were here pretty quick. >> reporter: and then you just got out? >> and we got out and everybody was standing out here. >> reporter: now, that all happened at 2:00 this morning. dayiced to firefighters this morning -- i talked to firefighters this morning. they say the fire was -- was pretty y to put out. they said this was close to an apartment building with wood trim and they had the cars to deal with and they wanted to make sure they didn't have an explosion. they put it out. their fire investigator was called out. we talked to a woman whose car was damaged by these flames. really as she was just coming out here to see what happened and trying to deal with what happened. >> oh, my goodness. >> reporter: is this the first you realized that your car was involved in the car? >> i just got a phone call this morning like five minutes ago, and she told me that it looked like my car that was in the

fire because she recognized the street. i just moved here. >> reporter: do you usually park right here? >> no. i usually park over there but somebody was parked over there. >> reporter: that's bad timing. certainly, she's very upset and frustrated. pg&e took a couple of hours just to get the power back on to folks. but they were able to replace the wires and everyone has power. coming out here live, the damage, though, still remains. folks are left to figure out how to deal with their insurance companies. get all of this taken care of and hout to -- and how to get to work today. claudine wong, ktvu channel 2 news. 8:32. those so-called love locks will be removed from a freeway overpass in los gatos today. ktvu's janine de la vega is in los gatos to talk about the removal and how a local museum hopes to give the display a second chance. good morning, janine. >> reporter: good morning, tori. well, to some people this might

look like an eyesore but to other people, they see this as romantic and a sweet decoration of people's love. you can see people have put their names there with their significant other and the date. but later on today, all of these locks are gonna be cut off by the department of public works. these locks started to appear last fall when one come wanted to commemorate their wedding anniversary and have their name engraved. they got the idea from similar landmarks around the world where lovers had left locks. caltrans owns the bridge and posted a sign six weeks ago, telling people to remove their locks or they would be cut off today. the town is concerned about the weight of the locks. they say if too many people put locks up there, it could cause problems. some residents don't buy that explanation and are disappointed. one woman who has left a lock here stopped by this morning to take a picture. >> because i knew they were gonna be taken down. i wanted to make sure i got one

more picture of it in the morning light. >> reporter: how are you feeling? you are smiling. >> i'm -- it's a bummer in a way but i'm glad it's getting some attention. i really appreciate the fact that the museum is stepping up to take the locks. i think that's a neat thing to do. >> reporter: she's talking about the plan the plan has to relocate the locks. the museum has offered to display the locks if the people remove them from the fence. there used to be 30 locks out here. this morning we counted about 17. that means those people have already taken the locks off. but sometime later today, somebody from public works is gonna come out here with bolt cutters. they are hauling them off to a corporation yard. people have until february 15th. she will pick -- to pick them up. if not, they will just be thrown away. reporting live from los gatos, janine de la vega, ktvu channel 2 news. let's go back to sal.

you are watching highway 101 and everyone else. the traffic looks pretty good around this area on 101 if you drive into san francisco. it has not been all that bad at all. northbound 101 and southbound 101 getting counsel to the airport airport -- down to the airport area. if you are driving down to the east bay, it's been crowded. we have a backup extending to -- i would say that's about ten minutes, still better than unusual. but it's become a lot more crowded. >> if you are driving in san jose, the commute looks better. 101 is still the slowest freeway. let's go to steve. >> all right. good morning. looks like most of the fog has burned off. pretty good patch in eastern napa county. a lot of haze out there. 30s, 40s to 50 on the current temperatures. so for some, it will be a nice day. for -- for others it will be a warm day. that offshore breeze, the direction the wind is coming from is still there. today, mostly sunny, patchy

fog, hazy, warm. mostly sunny over the weekend. i think more -- more an increase in the clouds. next rain, possibility next thursday and friday, but it looks more like a colder testimony -- a colder system. what? we could use the rain. almost, tori. almost. almost. i apologize folks. this has been one brutal bug. we do have high pressure saying, you know, it's a dry pattern. i'm not going anywhere until about maybe a week out. it will weaken slightly. high temperatures will come down a little bit. i just think the increase in some of that fog, 30s, 40s to 50 degrees at the oakland airport. 50 at half moon bay already. so the coast looks like the place to be. the higher clouds are taking a direct aim. sunny, warm. a cold start. it will be a nice afternoon. a lot of haze out there. 60s, 70s on the temperatures. clearlake at 70 degrees. 64 antioch. 66 in oakland. 64 pleasanton. everyone pretty close. but a little warmer towards santa clara valley.

gilroy, santa cruz. 67 cupertino. 60s on the coast and on the peninsula as well. extended, very quiet. not much change in the probably the end or middle of next week, tori. all right, steve. 8:37. turning back to the super bowl this morning, he's a big guy. he eped the 49ers win -- he helped the 49ers win three championships in the 1980s. protethed -- he protected joe 0 montana's -- joe montana's side, now you will see bubba on "the point after." bubby, we fine meet. how are you? >> reporter: how are you doing, dave? i'm sitting here in front of the stadium where i won my last super bowl. it's an unbelievable day in new orleans. how is it going back for you in the bay area? >> so far, so good. what's the general mood of the team. you have been around championship teams. what's the general mood of this team? >> reporter: well, so far,

yesterday, was an exciting day. they've been here for now four days. they didn't have their family. i was on the airplane with all of the children and wives. and it was such a party to see all of the children and everybody run up to them and now for the next few days, it will be a normal family atmosphere, what they are used to. they went from them being isolated. now they are here with their families, they are getting that center of gravity. i think they will go out there and they are gonna -- they are gonna do a good job because their wife is gonna drive them crazy and the babies will drive them crazy. >> bub but, what kind of add -- bubba, what kind of advice do you give them? what do you tell them to do, not to do? >> reporter: well, first of all, it will get normal. like i said at first, you have to be able to process all of

the distractions. it's not just 49er fans here and ray ven fans. there's people from all over the world. this is an event. it doesn't actually become a football game until the whistle blow. so what they are gonna have to do is keep the internal focus on the fact that they got not a lot of distractions of the event to get -- to distract them but they have to understand when that whistle blows, when the kickoff takes place, it becomes the same football that they played since they before. if they can remember that, they will be okay. >> on the field, bubba, what's the key play type of thing you expect to win this game? what will it take to win? >> reporter: well, i think -- one of the things that we got to see is this -- both of these teams are outstanding. will colin be able to make the difference? in a close defensive battle, you have to have a quarterback that's capable of making big plays and the thing that i believe is i believe that colin has a better chance of making

plays than flacco and because of the fact that we made that decision to go with him ten weeks ago, i -- i mean, ten games ago, i believe that decision will be the key difference that decides this game. >> bubba, you are our behind- the-scenes person. you get closer and know more about the inside than most people do. how does it feel about being there as a broadcaster, as a motivational guy? >> reporter: it's amazing. as i see the players interact with their family. i remember how it was when i didn't get to see my families for a few days. to see all of the media attention for people who don't normally get interviewed getting interviewed and to see all of these things and know they have to process it and be able to put it behind them and play a game. as a media person, i have to report the news and not make the news that i can sit back

well, the dow crossed over the 14,000 mark this morning for the first time since october 2007. taking a live look at the big board right now, it's still really close, up 135 to 13,996. it's been fluctuating back and forth. should mention the nasdaq is up 31 and the s&p is up 13. now why are stocks doing so well? there was some good economic news out this morning. ktvu's pam cook is in our newsroom with the jobs report and also letting us know who is hiring. pam? >> yeah, the monthly employment report came in right at 5:30 this morning, just about what economists had expected. 11 5 -- 157,000 jobs were added last month. but it's not enough to lower the unemployment rate. in fact, the rate went up to 7.9%. but analysts say it's good because it could be -- it could be because people started to look for work again after months of being off the record. now, what kind of jobs are

growing? retailers added 33,000 jobs in january, perhaps keeping some of their holiday help. construction jobs added nearly 30,000 and the -- as the housing market is picking up. healthcare, the other growth area. now, i checked in with our friends at b.a. jobs.com, some of the local companies hiring, great cuts, levis, chevron, and cisco university. economists saying this is all really good news that psychological mark of crossing the 14,000 level for the dow and the 1500 level for the s&p 500, that it's been testing for a while, all good, positive signs for the job economy, the economy in general and the economists expect good job this year. back to you. >> thank you. let's bring you up to date on some of the other top stories we're following for you rue note -- we're following a bizarre story from -- right now -- we're following a bizarre

[laughter] >> well -- >> the wig, the bagel, the cream. >> he's doing everything. >> so randy, there's been quite a bit of talk about some tension between some of the other judges. you are the original guy. you've been through 12 years of this. how are things going so far this season? >> i think it took a while for all of us to gel and find ourselves. a lot of us people who have been judges watched the show at home. oh. this looks easy. i can do this. it's like trying to be a prosports player and it is not as easy as you thought. we're firing on all cylinders. we're having a good time. >> i'm really glad to hear that. >> i would like to ask you some more questions. the last question, predictions for sunday. niners or ravens? >> go, niners! >> are you kidding?
